How to Podcast the Right Way
Associations Now columnist Ernie Smith offers four tips for those associations looking to make podcasting work for their members. Number one, recording a bunch of audio and hoping for the best is not an effective strategy. The best podcast content is well-considered, planned, and produced. Two, the association's brand should ultimately come second to creating content that members want to keep tuning back to. Three, "the vocals really matter." Misstatements and poor phrasings can drive podcast listeners crazy and even dissuade some from listening to future episodes. Speak slow, embrace a degree of silence, and be as precise with one's words as possible. Finally, promotion also matters. Simply putting a podcast online is not enough to ensure success. If the association is not pushing it out across the social platforms where members spend their time, even the best podcast will fail.
